Abend Gallery is thrilled to present The Sprout of Hope, a solo exhibition by Nigerian artist Ifeoluwa Alade. Known for his expressive portraits and symbolic compositions, Alade’s work explores the complexities of human relationships and the shared experiences that define us.
The Sprout of Hope
Inspired by the wisdom of Job 14:7, “For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease,” and John 1:4, “In Him was life; and the life was the light of men,” this collection explores themes of hope, renewal, and resilience.
This body of work finds its genesis in the illumination of scripture and the cycles of nature, reflecting life's transformative power. Through careful observation of these patterns, The Sprout of Hope invites viewers to contemplate the beauty of regeneration, even in the face of adversity. The collection seeks to evoke an oasis of hope amidst life’s challenges, serving as a metaphor for resilience and breakthroughs—like finding an oasis in the desert.
The artworks within this series offer a sanctuary of inspiration, reflecting the enduring human spirit and the transformative light of life. Each piece is a testament to the belief that renewal and growth are always possible no matter how profound the loss or hardship. This collection invites viewers to reflect on their own journeys of resilience and to draw strength from the promise of new beginnings.

Each piece is a testament to the belief that renewal and growth are always possible no matter how profound the loss or hardship. Meticulously crafted, each piece combines carefully selected subjects, materials, and colours to convey layered symbolic meanings. The works feature an eclectic mix of imagery, including portraits, dried leaves, sticks and branches, mushrooms, broken earthenware, skulls and bones, dead birds, nests, butterflies, and flowers. The thoughtful arrangement of these elements symbolises the fragility of life and the enduring promise of renewal.
Precision guides the execution of the collection, utilising a variety of techniques like acrylics, spray paints, glow-in-the-dark mediums, handheld brushes, palette knives, and stencils. Each medium enhances the depth and meaning of the works, creating a vivid testament to the resilience and enduring spirit of hope.
I create vibrant portraits and figures using acrylic and oil mediums, exploring the complexities of human relationships and their reflections on existence. Through a visual language that portrays individuals as a culmination of shared experiences, beliefs, and cultures, I challenge the notion of humans as isolated entities.
Each artwork is a narrative, representing symbolic emotions and moods that resonate with audiences. These pieces weave intricate stories of individuality, exploring the diverse experiences that make every person unique.
"A Timeless Exploration of Hope and Resilience" — Julius Agbaje
Alade-Ife truly outdid himself with this inspiring presentation, which explores themes of hope, resilience, thriving, and purpose in the human experience. What stands out most to me is how relatable it is. The sincerity and vulnerability behind these beautiful pieces of art are both admirable and worth emulating.
The highlight for me is the clear guidance that directs us back to the ultimate source of all inspiration and creation—key elements of this remarkable work. I especially appreciate how it draws from Biblical texts and offers fresh perspectives to them, turning these scriptures into practical, everyday wisdom.
The natural world's predictive and serendipitous qualities are skillfully used as metaphors for human life. This work speaks to our times, yet its message is timeless. It has personally given me hope, and I am confident it will inspire strength and optimism in others who experience it.
"A Bridge Between Art and the Inner Self" — Segun Oladokun
Ifeoluwa's paintings serve as bridges, connecting different aspects of your inner self. Encountering his canvas illuminates a consciousness you may have long overlooked, perhaps something you couldn't access on your own.
This series, in particular, invigorates my spirit with the concept of hope—not as mere wishful thinking, but as something tangible, rooted in the promises of God.
While the desolation in our world is undeniable, Ifeoluwa, through these paintings, takes on the role of a prophet. Inspired and visionary, he offers us something new, fresh, vibrant, and almost surreal to behold—hope.
"A Masterpiece of Faith and Light" — Joseph Idowu
I've had the privilege of witnessing Ifeoluwa's artistic journey, and his forthcoming exhibition, The Sprout of Hope, is a masterpiece. This collection transcends portraiture, infused with abstract fusion and inspired by scripture. Each piece is a testament to Ifeoluwa's skill and creativity, reflecting his deep spirituality and commitment to spreading hope.
The 'Light in the Darkness' and 'Still I Rise' series are standout examples of Ifeoluwa's ability to craft pieces that are aesthetically pleasing and reflective of his faith. The exhibition will be hosted at the prestigious Abend Gallery, providing the ideal setting for Ifeoluwa's latest work.
The Sprout of Hope shines a light in a world where darkness often prevails, boldly proclaiming a message of redemption and hope. Incorporating glow-in-the-dark mediums, this collection is a truly remarkable experience that will leave you in awe. I highly recommend attending the exhibition, as it will leave you inspired, hopeful, and eager for more. Ifeoluwa's art reminds us that even in darkness, there is always hope to be found.

Nigerian artist, Alade Ifeoluwa, paints what he can not communicate in words; those things that are better expressed in a gesture, a color, a simple line. According to Onifade, Araism is an authentic African painting technique based on the word “ara,” which can be found in many dialects throughout Africa and refers to lightening (illumination), wonder, sensuality, and madness.
Alade studied art at Obafemi Awolowo University and recognizes instructor Jonathan Imafidor, a successful artist in his own right, as a great influence and friend who remains a steadfast mentor.
