Artist Statement:
The Old World – Ancient Treasures of Europe
When thinking of Europe, the consciousness of the distant past is always in my mind. I love to immerse myself in ancient places, trying to imagine how the Old World worked. That is why I am deeply inspired, when visiting old places in Spain or Italy or traveling across my own country Germany. Since I am a painter, it is one of the most pleasant delights painting the surface of an ancient Roman wall or the subtle tones of changing southern light surrounded by Italian pines using some fine oil or watercolors. - Heiko Mattausch
