This December, Abend Gallery is heading east to exhibit its artists at one of the premiere art fairs during Miami Art Week—Scope Art Fair. Abend will feature work by three of the newest additions to the gallery’s roster:Nathan DurfeeDavid Lipson, and Marc Scheff.

David Lipson assembles one-of-a-kind robot sculptures from found objects, vintage items and repurposed parts. Freestanding, or set in mini dioramas, these whimsical creatures each have their own personality and imagined function. Having forged a successful 17-year career in the animation industry, Lipson traded his 80-hour work week for a more fulfilling existence focused on creating robots. Over 900 of his one-of-a-kind robots exist on every continent (except Antarctica), in private and corporate collections, in museums, galleries, books and on television.

Mark Sheff’s figurative work entices the eye with striking and fantastical color combinations. Presented under deep layers of resin, his subjects are mysterious and appealing. Scheff is an award-winning artist based in Brooklyn, NY. He has made a name of himself with his distinct dimensional conceptual portraits submerged in layers of resin. “In my work and my life, I seek to reveal unseen layers. Contrary to our subconscious, my layers in resin are fully exposed and vulnerable. I work to reveal the authenticity of what we all hide. Each work is a new set of risks and potential rewards. I obsess over materials, pushing them to work in unworkable ways.”

Nathan Durfee has gained notoriety for his intriguing, pop-surrealist narratives and his magical use of color. Currently based in Charleston, South Carolina, Durfee has been selected as the Best Local Visual Artist by Charleston City Paper for four years in a row and has worked as an illustrator for a number of national book and magazine publications. Each of Durfee’s solo gallery exhibitions continue to receive critical acclaim and are notorious for selling out on the spot. Durfee’s work has been recognized by numerous prestigious art publications including American Art Collector.

Abend is thrilled to feature these three artists at SCOPE Miami Beach, which is Celebrating its 19th edition this year. Honoring its perpetual mission to provide a platform for discovery, SCOPE will welcome 134 diverse contemporary exhibitors featuring The New Contemporary, a genre that stands as a critical contribution to both global politics and local community engagement.

New to the pavilion this year is OASIS, an experiential multidisciplinary program located in our expanded Atrium. OASIS will present daily programming featuring large scale installations, music performances, and panel discussions while continuing our long-standing commitment to wellness. Come enjoy morning healing programming, guided meditation, and CBD spa treatments, against the backdrop of beautiful South Beach.

Amidst praise from collectors, SCOPE will continue its acclaimed VIP Programming with an exclusive series of talks and events. SCOPE will also offer an exclusive shuttle service for VIP Cardholders courtesy of Porsche. SCOPE Miami Beach opens on December 3, with its Platinum First View and VIP + Press Preview, and will open to the public December 4 - 8, 2019.
