Artist Statement

The paintings in End of an Era explore themes of loss and obsolescence that are both personal and universal. As a painter working within the framework of traditional realism, I am interested in the art historical timeline that parallels our own societal development. From where we stand now, there are always whispers of what has come before and as we move into the future, the simple moments of our unknowable zeitgeist take on more meaning. It is my duty to act as a preservationist and the process of painting allows this amid time’s relentless march forward.

📅 Exhibition Dates: May 24, 2025 → June 14, 2025

Location: Abend Gallery, 1261 Delaware St, Denver, CO 80204

LEARN MORE ABOUT BRAD DAVIs

Brad Davis creates observational oil paintings that transform and preserve Cincinnati's urban landscape, focusing on overlooked architectural elements and city scenes that often face imminent change or demolition. Through direct on-site painting and traditional techniques influenced by American painters like John Sloan, Edward Hopper, and Thomas Eakins, Davis captures layers of urban decay that reflect the city's historical character. After earning his BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati and MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, he has established himself as an educator at both his alma mater and the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning. He also serves as a resident instructor at Manifest Drawing Center. His work has gained international recognition with exhibitions at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and inclusion in the XL Catlin Art Prize traveling show. His paintings are held in the permanent collections of the Union League of Philadelphia and Capitol One Bank.
