Artist Statement
This body of work came about from a desire to paint a cohesive series of paintings based on a similar theme. I thought it would be fun to depict elements in the periodic table with a physical representation of what that element may be used for or part of. I also thought it would be fun to paint various types of texture, from a shiny glass salt shaker to a matte green balloon. It really started with a little Superman toy that had been purchased for a possible painting idea in the future and combining that with the element Krypton. For the “Carbon” painting, a tree frog is depicted as carbon is the basic building block of every living thing. In the end, this series combines two things I love; science and art. Although not chemistry, I did not love that in school. - Patrick Nevins
