About the Exhibition

Abend Gallery is pleased to present Unnoticed, a solo exhibition of new work by Bryanna Marie. The show brings together 40 miniature paintings, each rendered in oil on a coin, primarily copper pennies worn smooth by years of circulation. At roughly three-quarters of an inch across, every piece asks you to slow down, lean in, and look closely.

Across these small surfaces, Marie paints the little creatures, hidden landscapes, and quiet moments that most of us pass without a second glance. The intimate scale is the point. Each work rewards patience and attention, offering a moment of stillness in a world that rarely pauses. By painting on coins that have been handed from person to person and often overlooked, Marie restores a sense of value to the forgotten and ties memory and meaning to these tiny, treasured scenes.

Unnoticed opens with a reception on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 6 – 8 PM and remains on view through August 15, 2026.

Artist Statement

This series began during a period of self-reflection, when I realized how rarely we pause to notice endless scenes of little creatures and subtle moments in nature that quietly thrive around us. In a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming, I wanted to create paintings that gently guide us back to what is quiet, grounded, and easily overlooked.

Each piece is painted in oils on coins, primarily copper pennies. The small scale is intentional. These works ask for patience, attention, and care with every brushstroke. Painting at this size keeps me present and deeply grateful for the beauty found in simple scenes. Through these miniature animals, hidden landscapes, and intimate spaces, I hope viewers feel the same sense of stillness I experience while creating them.

Pennies carry their own history, passed from place to place, often so insignificant, they're lost or forgotten. Using coins, I aim to honor their journey and restore a sense of value, while tying memory and meaning to these tiny treasured places. Though small in size, each piece invites you onto a larger path, one that moves at a slower pace and finds meaning in the little things that often go unnoticed.

About the Artist

Bryanna Marie (b. 1987) is a self-taught painter known for miniature oil paintings, most no larger than an inch across. Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, she was drawn to painting early and immersed herself in the work of artists she admired, learning by close observation and steady practice.

In 2014, while painting a small three-by-three-inch canvas for a charity event, she fell for the challenge of working at a tiny scale. She kept pushing that boundary, moving to smaller and smaller surfaces and experimenting with different materials, until she arrived at the coin. She now paints landscapes, wildlife, and portraits in oil on coins, primarily copper pennies, each smaller than an inch across, magnifying her work under a scope as she paints.

Marie's paintings honor traditional painting while making a quiet case that the smallest things can hold an abundance of wonder when we stop to notice them. Her work has been featured on ABC News and Ripley's Believe It or Not!, and she exhibits across the United States and abroad.
