Mariska Karto is an artist / fine artphotographer born in Surinam (South America). She is an artist with a mixed background from Surinam (South America), Asia (Indonesia) and the Netherlands (Europe). She was raised and is based in the Netherlands (Europe). Originally she is a figurative sketcher and textile artist. She uses the body to express as well as her love for fabrics and textiles, to create a sensitive and sinsere atmossphere in her works. In her style she is referring to baroque/pictorialism fused with photography. She creates from small personal works, zooming in people's individuality, to large scaled fresco's. In her fresco's, she tells a story of our old world and new world, blended together.
