David Shingler is originally from Tallahassee FL., and trained at the Cleveland Institute of Art. He moved to Colorado because he enjoyed the state’s dramatic western scenery. His original art school focus was in sculpture and glassblowing, making kinetic machines that respond to natural forces. That feeling still pervades his work, and Colorado is the perfect place to capture it. Shingler took the plunge as a full-time artist quitting his job as a welder and renting a studio to devote his full energies to art. This frees him to travel in search of inspiring places. Shingler’s oil paintings are not photorealistic but they create a sense of depth and energy that make viewers feel they are there. Shingler paints a diverse subject matter including landscapes, cityscapes and figurative works.
