Artist Statement
My work explores the natural world, articulating my fascination and love for it. My aim is to convey the subject in what I like to refer to as painterly realism. Maintaining an emphasis on drawing, values and color, I aspire to capture my subject with honesty while articulating its emotional impact on me. Although these paintings can be called representational and realistic in nature, there is a constant impulse for disruption through expression as well. The world is in perpetual motion and I try to capture that motion in my work. -Thorgrimur Einarsson
Bio
Thorgrimur is an Icelandic artist born in Reykjavík in 1980. He spent his formative years composing and performing music before studying audio engineering in London at the age of 23. After London, he attended the Royal Conservatory of Music in Den Haag, Holland, where he earned his degree in 2010. After studying oil painting during his stay in den Haag, he decided to make it his primary artistic outlet, as he could express himself better in a visual medium.
Thorgrimur prefers to work from direct observation, believing it to be the optimal method of achieving an authentic appearance. His greatest enthusiasm, the landscape, continually finds its way to his paintings, even if he is inspired by a wide range of subjects.
In his painting, Thorgrimur employs Alla Prima techniques to express his subject in what he calls painterly realism. He strives to capture his subject as accurately as possible while expressing its emotional impact, adhering to an emphasis on accurate drawing, values, and colour.
