“A Place For Us” represents all interracial couples seeking peace in a world still striving to find equality and acceptance. In this painting, she quietly lives in her version of a utopian world where she feels safe enough to love and hold the one she loves most. The white snake, representing the male, rests upon her shoulder in peace. I chose to paint the mycelium red suggesting that it is poisonous, yet does not bother the figure and her lover. The figure, snake, and mycelium dwell among one another despite their differences, and for a moment they have found peace.
